Handwritten signature generator
Type your name and pick one of eight cursive handwriting styles, or draw your signature online with a mouse, trackpad or finger. Download it as a PNG with a see through background for documents and PDFs, or for an email signature. It all happens in your browser, so your signature is never uploaded.
Free, no sign-up. It runs in your browser, so nothing you add is uploaded.

How to make a handwritten signature online
Two ways, both in the tool above. Typing is quickest; drawing gives you your own hand.
Type your name in cursive
- Type your name the way you sign it, in full or as an initial and surname.
- Pick one of the eight handwriting styles. Each shows your own name, so you can compare them.
- Choose an ink: black, a ballpoint blue, navy or graphite.
- Download the PNG, or copy it and paste it straight into your document.
Draw your signature online
- Switch to Draw it and sign in the box with a mouse, a trackpad, a stylus or your finger.
- Use Undo to take back the last stroke, or Clear to start again. Pick a finer or bolder pen if it helps.
- Download the PNG, cropped to your signature, or an SVG that scales to any size.
Typed or drawn: which to use
Both give you an image of your name to place on a page.
A drawn signature is the closer match to what you sign on paper, and it is yours alone. On a trackpad it can take a few tries; a phone with a finger, or a tablet with a stylus, is easier.
A typed signature is ready in seconds and looks the same every time, which suits forms you fill in often. Pick a style that looks like something you could have written yourself.
The eight cursive signature styles
Type your name once and the tool shows a cursive signature for your name in all eight styles, side by side.
| Style | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| Great Vibes | Flowing and formal, with long lead-in strokes |
| Allura | Elegant but upright, so it stays easy to read |
| Pinyon Script | Copperplate, like a fountain pen on an invitation |
| Alex Brush | A brush script with a steady slant |
| Sacramento | A thin, joined line, like a fine felt pen |
| Dancing Script | Relaxed everyday handwriting, the plainest of the eight |
| Herr Von Muellerhoff | Fast and slanted, the most like a quick real signature |
| Monsieur La Doulaise | Ornate capitals with sweeping flourishes |
Long names work best in the plainer styles, Allura or Dancing Script, which stay readable when the signature is scaled down to fit a line.
Adding your signature to a document or PDF
Anything that can insert a picture can take it.
- Open the document in your word processor or PDF editor and find its insert image or add image option.
- Choose the PNG you downloaded, or paste it if you copied it.
- Drag a corner to scale it to the signature line, keeping its proportions.
The background is see through, so the line and the page show through the gaps in your signature, as ink would. The file is saved large, so it stays sharp when you scale it down. Keep a copy somewhere safe, and only share it with documents you mean to sign.
Using it in your email signature
A handwritten signature can sit above your name in an email signature.
Outlook’s help names a handwritten signature among the pictures an email signature can include (Microsoft Support). Keep it about 120 to 160 pixels wide, between your sign off and your name, and keep your name as text too, since some people read email with images turned off. The image size tool shrinks the PNG to that width at twice the pixels, so it stays sharp.
If what you want is your name itself set large at the top of your signature, as a designed mark in a real typeface, that is Masthead, one of esigna’s Pro Templates. Anyone can try it in the Editor; copying it needs the Signature plan, $9 once (launch price until October 31, then $19).

FAQ
Questions
Is a typed or drawn signature legally valid?
It depends on the document and where you are. Many forms and PDFs only ask for an image of your signature, while some contracts call for a signing service that records who signed and when. If you are unsure, ask whoever sent you the document.
How do I add my signature to a PDF or Word document?
Most PDF editors and word processors can insert an image. Place the PNG you downloaded, then scale it to sit on the signature line. Its see through background lets the line and the page show through.
Can I put my handwritten signature in my email signature?
Yes. Outlook's help lists a handwritten signature among the images a signature can include. Keep it about 120 to 160 pixels wide, under your sign off and above your name, and keep your name as text too, since some people read email with images turned off.
Which handwriting style should I pick?
Pick one that looks like a signature you could have written. Great Vibes, Allura and Pinyon Script are formal and flowing; Dancing Script and Sacramento read more relaxed. If you can, draw it instead, so the signature is in your own hand.
Can I use the signature for business?
Yes. The handwriting fonts are under the SIL Open Font License, which says images made with a font belong to whoever made them, for any use. A drawn signature is yours entirely.
Is my signature saved anywhere?
No. Your name and your drawing stay in your browser. Nothing is sent to esigna, and closing the page clears them.
