How to change your email signature in Gmail
In Gmail on a computer, click Settings, then See all settings. On the General tab, scroll to Signature and click the signature you want to edit. Make your changes in the text box, then click Save Changes at the bottom of the page. The Gmail app on a phone can have its own mobile signature, changed in the app's settings.

While you’re in there
Change it to one that looks like this
Most signatures are a few lines of plain text. esigna’s free Editor turns the same details into a designed signature in a few minutes, with your photo or logo, and copies it ready to paste into the steps below.

Gmail on the web
Change it once on a computer and it applies wherever you use Gmail in a browser.
- Open Gmail. At the top right, click Settings, then See all settings.
- Under General, scroll to Signature and click the signature you want to edit.
- Make your changes in the text box. To rename the signature, click Edit.
- At the bottom of the page, click Save Changes.
Gmail allows up to 10,000 characters in a signature, and an image counts toward that limit.
Choose which signature Gmail adds
With more than one signature, Gmail lets you choose one for new emails and one for replies.
- In Settings, open See all settings and scroll to Signature on the General tab.
- Below the signatures, set the default for new emails and the default for replies.
- Click Save Changes.
If you send from more than one address with Send mail as, pick the address from the drop-down above the signature box and set its defaults too.
Replace it with a new signature
Edit the old one and paste over it, or delete it and make a new one.
- Make the new signature in esigna's free Editor and choose Copy signature.
- Open the signature under Settings, See all settings, Signature, and click it.
- Select everything in the text box, delete it, and paste the new one (⌘V or Ctrl+V).
- Click Save Changes.
To start over instead: click the old signature, click Delete, confirm, then click Create new, name it, paste and save. Set the new one as your default.
The Gmail app on Android
The app's Mobile signature is only for email you send from the app.
- Open the Gmail app. In the top left, tap Menu.
- Scroll to the bottom, then tap Settings.
- Choose the Google Account the signature is for.
- Tap Mobile signature, change the text and tap OK.
Google says that if you don't create a signature in the Gmail app, new messages use the signature you made on your computer. To use your designed signature from the app, leave Mobile signature empty.
The Gmail app on iPhone and iPad
- At the top left, tap Menu, then Settings.
- Under Compose and Reply, tap Signature settings.
- With Mobile Signature on, add or edit your mobile signature.
- To save, tap Back.
With more than one account in the app, Google says to change this setting for each one. If Mobile Signature is off, the app uses the signature from your computer.
Use a different signature in one email
- Start writing an email in Gmail on the web.
- At the bottom of the window, click Insert signature.
- Pick the signature you want for this email.
Troubleshooting
If something looks wrong
Gmail says my signature is too long
Gmail allows up to 10,000 characters, and an image counts toward the limit. Google's help suggests making the image smaller. A signature copied from esigna links its pictures rather than pasting them in, which keeps it well under the limit.
The Gmail app still sends my old signature
The app's Mobile signature is set, so it is used instead of your computer signature. Change it in the app's settings, or turn it off (iPhone) or clear it (Android) so the app uses the one you changed on the web.
I can't format my signature
Plain text mode is on. In a new email, click More options and uncheck Plain text mode, then edit the signature again.
My signature is hidden behind three dots
Gmail can tuck the signature below the message, behind three dots. Scroll to the bottom of the message and click Show trimmed content to see it.
