How to add or change your email signature on iPhone

Open the Settings app, tap Apps, then Mail, and tap Signature under Composing. Delete “Sent from my iPhone” and type or paste your own. With more than one account, tap Per Account to give each its own. Apple says these signatures can only be text, so a designed one takes a few more steps.

Checked against its sources on October 23, 2026.

Set your signature in iPhone Mail

Mail’s signature is set in the Settings app.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps, then Mail.
  3. Under Composing, tap Signature.
  4. Tap the text and change it.

With more than one email account, choose All Accounts to use one signature everywhere, or Per Account to give each account its own. Apple’s guide says the signature can only be text.

Remove “Sent from my iPhone”

It’s the signature Mail starts with, and it stays until you change it.

  1. Open Settings, tap Apps, then Mail, then Signature.
  2. Delete “Sent from my iPhone”.
  3. Type your own signature in its place, or leave the box empty to send without one.

If you chose Per Account, each account keeps its own text, so check every one. On an iPad the same box says “Sent from my iPad”.

Bring a designed signature to your iPhone

Apple only promises text, so a photo, a logo and colors need a little care. esigna opens your signature on the phone, ready to copy.

  1. Make your signature in esigna, or open one you made, and choose Copy signature.
  2. Choose iPhone and scan the code with your iPhone’s camera. On the iPhone itself, tap Open on this iPhone instead.
  3. On the page that opens, tap Copy signature.
  4. Turn off Dark Mode while you paste: open Control Center, touch and hold the brightness bar, and tap Dark Mode. Pasted in Dark Mode, your words turn white for the people you email.
  5. Open Settings, tap Apps, then Mail, then Signature.
  6. Press and hold in the box, tap Select All, then tap the delete key, so nothing of the old signature is left. Then paste.
  7. Right after pasting, shake the iPhone. When Undo Change Attributes appears, tap Undo. Mail swaps your fonts, sizes and colors for its own as you paste, and Undo brings yours back.
  8. Send yourself an email to see it as the people you email will.

If nothing appears when you shake, turn on Settings, Accessibility, Touch, Shake to Undo, then paste and shake again. Dark Mode is also in Settings: under Appearance on iOS 27, and Display & Brightness on iOS 26 and earlier. Turn it back on afterwards if you like. Your words look dark in a new email on the iPhone, but arrive as you made them.

Apple documents Shake to Undo but not that it keeps a pasted design. esigna tested it on an iPhone in October 2026, and the signature arrived as made, photo included, in Gmail on the web and in the Gmail app. A code works for 24 hours. If the design doesn’t hold, choose Plain text under Other formats in the Copy window, email it to yourself and copy it from that email on the iPhone. It drops the photo and logo, and it’s what Apple supports.

The Gmail and Outlook apps on iPhone

Each app has a signature setting of its own, apart from iPhone Mail’s.

The Gmail app

Tap Menu at the top left, then Settings, and under Compose and Reply tap Signature settings. When Mobile Signature is on, the app adds that text to everything you send from it. Google says that without one, new messages use the signature you set up on your computer, so leave it off to keep a design you set in Gmail on the web.

More in the Gmail guide.

The Outlook app

Open Settings, and under Mail tap Signature. Type or paste your signature, or turn on Per Account Signature to give each account its own. Microsoft doesn’t say whether the app keeps a pasted design, so send yourself an email to check.

If something looks wrong

The words came out white. The iPhone was in Dark Mode when you pasted. Turn Dark Mode off, empty the box with Select All and delete, and paste again.

The fonts, sizes or colors changed. Paste again and shake the iPhone right after, then tap Undo when Undo Change Attributes appears.

Part of the old signature is still there. Deleting only what you can see can leave pieces of the old one behind, and they send under the new one. Press and hold in the box, tap Select All, delete, and paste again.

Some emails still say “Sent from my iPhone”. They come from an account with its own signature. Tap Per Account under Signature and change each one.

The page says the code has expired. A code works for 24 hours. On your computer, choose Copy signature, then iPhone, and scan the new code.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I change my email signature on iPhone?

Open the Settings app, tap Apps, then Mail, and tap Signature under Composing. Tap the text and change it. If each account has its own signature, tap Per Account and change each one.

Can I put a logo or photo in my iPhone email signature?

Apple says Mail signatures on iPhone can only be text, so there’s no button to add a picture. In esigna’s tests, a signature pasted from the page its iPhone code opens kept its photo, but Apple doesn’t promise that.

How do I remove “Sent from my iPhone”?

Open Settings, tap Apps, then Mail, then Signature, and delete it. Leave the box empty to send without a signature, or type your own.

Can each email account have its own signature?

Yes. Under Signature, tap Per Account and set one for each account. All Accounts uses the same signature for every account.

Does my computer’s signature show up on my iPhone?

iPhone Mail uses the signature set in the iPhone’s own Settings app, so set it there. The Gmail app works the other way: it uses the signature from Gmail on your computer unless you turn on its Mobile Signature.

Why does my signature look dark on black while I write?

That’s Dark Mode drawing your draft. If you pasted the signature in Light Mode, the people you email see it as you made it.
