Social media icons for email signatures
Pick the networks you use, a style and a colour, and download the icons as PNG files saved at twice their size, which keeps them sharp in Gmail, Outlook and Apple Mail. Most signatures show icons 16 to 24 pixels across. Add each one to your signature as an image and link it to your profile.
Free, no sign-up. It runs in your browser, so nothing you add is uploaded.

In dark mode, X is hard to see. Circle or Square puts each mark on a filled shape that stays visible.
How to add social media icons to your email signature
An icon is only useful if it opens your profile, so each one goes in as an image with a link.
- Pick the networks you use above, then a style, colour and size, and download the icons as PNG.
- Open your email app's signature settings and put the cursor where the icons go, usually under your contact details.
- Insert the first icon as an image. Gmail takes an upload, a file from Google Drive or a web address.
- Select the icon, choose the editor's link button and paste the address of your profile.
- Repeat for each icon, with a space between them, then save the signature.
The setup guides show where the signature settings are in Gmail, Outlook and Apple Mail, on the web, on a computer and on a phone.
The LinkedIn icon for your email signature
LinkedIn is the one most signatures carry, and it has the plainest rules.
LinkedIn’s brand guidelines let members use its logo in an email signature as a link to their profile, company page or group page, and in a row of social media icons (LinkedIn brand guidelines). They ask that the logo stays in one of three colours, blue, black or white, and that its shape is not changed or combined with other marks.
In the tool, Brand colours with the Plain style give you LinkedIn’s own blue mark, and One colour in black gives the black one. If you pick another colour or a Circle, Square or Outline style while LinkedIn is chosen, the tool says that this steps outside LinkedIn’s rules. To download only the LinkedIn icon, use the download button on its tile.
Email signature icons for email, phone, website and address
The same styles work for your contact details, so the whole signature matches.
Beside the social networks, the tool has icons for email, phone, website and address, drawn to match the social ones in every style and colour. Put one in front of each detail, at the same size as your text or a little larger, and link the email icon to a mailto: link and the phone icon to a tel: link so a tap starts an email or a call.
Keep the details themselves as text next to the icons. Some people read email with images turned off, and text can be copied, where an icon can’t.
What size social media icons should be
Icons should be easy to tap on a phone without crowding your name.
| Size | File | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| 16 px | 32 px | A compact signature, or a long row of icons |
| 20 px | 40 px | Most signatures; a good default |
| 24 px | 48 px | A roomy layout, or icons that stand alone |
| 32 px | 64 px | Icons as the main way to reach you |
Leave about 6 pixels between icons so each one is easy to tap. The preview above shows the row at the size you picked, beside a sample signature, so you can judge it the way a reader will see it.
Sizing a logo or headshot too? The image size tool does the same for those.
Brand colours or one colour
Both work. Pick one and use it for every icon.
Brand colours make each network recognisable at a glance: LinkedIn’s blue, YouTube’s red. They also bring four or five new colours into your signature, which can look busy next to a logo in its own colours.
One colour keeps the signature calm. Match it to your logo or to the colour of your name, and the marks still read by their shape. Ink or dark grey is the safe choice; a light grey can fade on white.
Social icons in dark mode
Many email apps recolour text in dark mode but leave images as they are.
When a reader has dark mode on, some email apps turn the page dark and lighten the text, but leave images exactly as they are. A black X or a navy LinkedIn mark drawn on nothing then sits on a dark page and all but disappears.
The fix is a style with a background: Circle or Square puts each mark on a filled shape, with the mark itself in white, so it reads on light and dark pages alike. The tool warns you when a colour you picked is hard to see in dark mode.
Which networks to include
Two to four is plenty. Choose the profiles a reader would actually want.
For most professionals that starts with LinkedIn. Designers add Behance or Dribbble, developers GitHub, and people who sell to the public Instagram or Facebook. Leave out a profile you don’t keep up, since a reader who follows the icon will find it empty.
The role pages show what fits a few common jobs, for example software engineers, graphic designers and marketing managers.

FAQ
Questions
What size should social media icons be in an email signature?
16 to 24 pixels across, with about 6 pixels between them. Smaller is hard to tap on a phone, and larger starts to compete with your name. The tool saves each icon at twice the size you pick, so a 20 pixel icon is a 40 pixel file.
Why PNG and not SVG?
SVG support in email is patchy: Outlook for Windows up to 2016 doesn't show SVG images at all, and Gmail only recently started to, by turning them into PNG. PNG shows everywhere, so use the PNG files in your signature. The SVG download is there for websites, print and design apps.
How do I link an icon to my profile?
Add the icon to your signature as an image, select it, then use the signature editor's link button and paste the address of your profile. esigna's free Editor does this for you: type your profile links and the icons are added and linked.
Why does an icon disappear in dark mode?
Some email apps darken the page in dark mode but leave images as they are, so a black or navy icon with no background all but vanishes. A square or circle style puts the mark on a filled shape and stays visible on both. The preview shows light and dark side by side.
Am I allowed to use these logos?
The logos belong to their companies, and each company sets its own rules. LinkedIn's lets members use its logo in an email signature as a link to their profile, in blue, black or white and unchanged in shape. Follow each company's brand guidelines for anything more. The shapes come from Simple Icons, which publishes them free of copyright (CC0).
Do I need an account?
No. The icons are drawn in your browser and downloaded straight to your device.
